1. Are the costumes, choreography and music age appropriate?
Yes! As a parent you may be concerned about what music your child is listening to and the influence it may have on them. Music containing bad language and sexually explicit lyrics are not acceptable at LKM Dance. We carefully select current pop, rock, and hip-hop music to suit all our classes. Our costumes and choreography are designed in a tasteful yet up to date style. We never forget that we are working with children.
2. Is a professional, safe dance floor used?
YES! Dance is a very physical activity that requires a lot of jumping, which can put stress on bones and joints. Dance shoes do not provide cushioning as sports shoes do. To protect students and teachers, our studio is equipped with a professional "sprung" floor, timber resting on hi-density rubber blocks to absorb the shock of jumping. This floor helps reduce the risk of injuries and allows our dancers to dance longer without getting tired.
3. Do students have the opportunity to perform?
YES! You can dance for yourself, but the true joy of dancing is in the sharing. At LKM Dance we have two major performances each year.
The Mid-Year Concert is a family friendly event held in June at a local high school. Students are able to demonstrate their progress in their dance studies at a low-key event. Costumes are simple and inexpensive, using our uniform as a base and accessorising with items from the LKM Wardrobe or students' own clothing.
The End of Year Concert is our chance to WOW families and friends with our achievements of the past year. Held in December at Evan Theatre, Penrith Panthers Leagues Club, this event is a must for you to see. Professional sound, lighting and photography gives our students the chance to experience the wonderful world of performance and our families and friends are always blown away by the standard of dance and all round professionalism. Students look forward to the rehearsals, costuming and of course, the final performance of the year.
4. Are staff experienced and qualified?
YES! Consideration should be given to the experience, training and teaching background of the staff. Our teachers are professionally trained / qualified with an emphasis on inspiring and encouraging all dancers. Our aim is to conduct orderly yet fun classes, with a strong emphasis on learning proper technique and dance terminology.
5. Are costs for tuition, dance shoes, clothing and other supplies reasonable, and where can I find them?
Yes! Many people look for the least expensive classes, without comparing the quality of the programs. Most recreational-type classes, offered at community centres or recreation facilities are introductory classes at best. They may cost less than that of a private dance school, but are usually taught by less experienced teachers. Our fees are competitive and structured to provide the opportunity of dance to all.
Dance, like netball, swimming and many other children’s activities, requires specific attire. We have a studio uniform with different pieces available to allow students to "create their own look" while keeping consistency. The range is designed to assist teachers in monitoring correct technique and body alignment. Competitively priced, we are able to provide all your required dance clothing directly from our studio. Dance shoes are available from stores in Penrith and Katoomba - we are aiming to sell shoes from our studio next year.
